Being an ambitious woman can sometimes get pretty lonely, but Debra Shigley gives refuge in her new book, The Go Getter Girl’s Guide.

Shigley gives a basic run down of what exactly a “go getter girl” (GGG) is by giving an inside look at the life of successful women. These real-life case studies show how being a GGG led to each woman’s success. She also gives helpful tips about getting ahead in the workplace, including avoiding workplace gossip, networking, how to schmooze, and how to deal with negative people.

Instead of focusing solely on the workplace, Shigley gives equal amount of attention to all aspect of a GGG’s life: keeping fit and eating right, dressing for your body, being stylish without breaking the bank, using makeup to enhance your natural beauty, self-education, learning how to negotiate, knowing when to quit, finding mentors, and embracing all of your attributes.

Here, Debra Shigley discusses her book and the characteristics of a GGG in a two-part interview.

This book is a bible for girls who are driven to succeed: assertive and goal-oriented, but also stylish and graceful. In her book, Shigley says it’s okay, and even preferred, to be both competitive and friendly. Just because you’re driven to succeed doesn’t mean you can’t be a warm, thoughtful person; and look good to boot! Do you have what it takes?
